| ASAP | ||
This committee provides staff and teachers support by performing the following tasks: copying, collating, stapling and preparing instructional materials. Training for the copy machines will be provided and volunteer time is flexible. This is a great place to volunteer if you find yourself with a few extra minutes on campus. This committee always needs more help. |

| Marquee Maintenance | ||
| Volunteers are needed to help update the West Valley Marquee on a monthly basis. | Kim Flickner | |
| Directory | ||
| This committee is primarily responsible for printing and distributing the Student/Family Directory. Computer skills and a familiarity with MS Works and/or Excel are important. Additional volunteers are needed in fall to proofread the directory draft prior to it going to print. The time commitment is from September through October with the busiest time being the first two weeks of October. | Amanda Weitzel | |
| Emergency Preparedness | ||
| Volunteers will collect and update emergency preparedness information from the District and the State, will purchase and store supplies, and will support school staff in implementing and updating the Cupertino Union School District Emergency Preparedness Plan. | **POSITION OPEN** | |
| Environment/Recycling | ||
| This committee is responsible for developing and implementing a recycling program. Help is needed to supervise the student recycling team during lunch, transport materials to the recycling center, and/or guide students in tending the compost bin. | **POSITION OPEN** | |
| Event Sound System Support | ||
| Volunteers provide sound system assistance (setup, testing and operation) during school events, such as assemblies, Exploration Day and Halloween Parade. | Karen Szybalski | |
| Exploration Day | ||
| This committee plans and schedules the program for Exploration Day. This is a day of enrichment for West Valley School students. Community and parent volunteers offer a fantastic variety of presentations including arts, science, cooking, other cultures, sports, careers, etc. | Leissa Hartlage and Cyndi Hayes-Rupp | |
| Friends of the Library | ||
| Assist in the library/media center, usually shelving books, reading to classes, checking books in and out, updating displays, and assisting students and the media clerk as necessary. Training will be provided. Volunteers will also staff the Book Fair (usually held in November). | Cindy Hauser | |
| Health & Safety | ||
This committee supports health-related programs through the PTA, such as school health aides, health information programs, safety (bicycle helmets, skating protection, etc.), health articles in the newsletter, etc. |

| Holiday Donations | ||
| In early December, volunteers coordinate the collection and sorting of donations (traditionally canned foods, but could be changed to Scrip) to a community service agency. | **CHAIR NEEDED** | |
| Honorary Service Award | ||
| Volunteers will work as a committee with the school community to nominate individuals whose service to children has been exemplary for a PTA Honorary Service Award, and arrange for presentation of these awards at a meeting. | **POSITION OPEN** | |
| Hospitality | ||
| Volunteers are needed to help provide refreshments for various occasions to honor and support the West Valley School staff. Help may also be needed to serve and clean up at these functions. | **POSITION OPEN** | |
| Legislation | ||
| This committee is responsible for informing the PTA of current education-related legislative activity. Volunteers should plan to attend CUSD School Board meetings when possible. | Michael Ivers | |
| Membership | ||
| Volunteers recruit memberships through various means (including, but not limited to: Welcome Packets; posters; bulletin board displays; information tables at registration, Back-to-School night and Open House, etc.); keep records of members as required by California PTA; issue membership cards; create membership packets; collect dues and forward to treasurer; transmit Directory information to Directory Chairperson/people, and Volunteer information to the Volunteer Coordinator. | Beth Semans | |
| Music | ||
| The PTA Music program provides a.) some funding for school-day music theory programs for intermediate students, and b.) a funding and administrative support mechanism for the after-school instrumental music program. Volunteers coordinate the music program, collecting funds, registering students and scheduling the music room for this purpose. | Dawn Ying | |
| Natural Science & Garden Program | ||
| Volunteers provide hands-on learning experiences for all students in garden/environment-based natural science. Volunteers will be trained in the curriculum by the Natural Science Committee chairperson /people, and can expect a committment of about two days per month. | Kristie Fellows | |
| News & Notes | ||
| Volunteers may be needed to assist in running copies of the News & Notes" Newsletter on Tuesday. In addition, volunteers are needed early Wednesday mornings to collate, staple, and distribute copies to the teachers' boxes. The time commitment is usually about one hour per week. | Beth Semans | |
| Open House | ||
| This committee will coordinate with the Principal to provide pizzas, soft drinks, and popsicles on the evening of the school's annual Open House. | **Open Position** | |
| Programs | ||
| This committee will coordinate with the board to produce programs to occur either prior to business meetings or at special meetings, obtaining speakers, panels, demonstrations, focus groups, audio-visual materials or other types of presentations relevant to school and community issues. | **Open Position** | |
| PTA Newsletter | ||
| Produce an "as needed" newsletter to update the community on PTA activities, business issues, fund-raising, budget, legislation, and district, council and state service opportunities, to be attached to the weekly school newsletter, "News & Notes." | **CHAIR NEEDED** | |
| Reading Program - Books & Beyond | ||
| This committee is responsible for organizing and administering the school-wide pleasure reading program. Volunteers are needed to help track individual progress on the Books & Beyond bulletin board in the library. | Room Parents | ||
| This committee is responsible for coordinating volunteers to serve as Room Parents in each classroom. A minimum of two volunteers is needed in each classroom to assist teachers as requested during the year. This includes various classroom parties. | School Spirit Promotions | ||
| This committee will coordinate production, sale and distribution of school logo items: clothing, school accessories, etc., the goal of which will be both fundraising and promoting school identity and spirit. | Beth Semans | |
| Student Literary Magazine | ||
| This committee will coordinate with classroom teachers to gather submissions to the quarterly magazine; will typeset, or arrange to have it typeset; will have it printed; and will deliver it to teachers’ mailboxes for general distribution. | **Position OPEN* | |

| Valet | ||
| This committee is responsible for coordinating the morning student drop-off program and for promoting student safety in the parking lot. It consists of 5 adult volunteers, each of whom is responsible for parking lot duty one day a week, and many students. | Chuck Cali Debbie Glincher |

| Walkathon | ||
| Walkathon is the PTA's biggest fund-raising effort. The committee is responsible for running the annual event which will be held in October at the school. Many volunteers are needed on both the day of the event and the months leading up to it. | This committee is responsible for coordinating West Valley's participation in the nationwide Walk-To-School Day program. Volunteers are needed to help setup posters and other promotional items prior to the event, then celebratory items on the day of the event. | Suma Singh |

| This committee is responsible for the
overall look, feel and maintenance of West Valley's website. Volunteers are needed
with web authoring skills to help maintain the content for the different programs and
