John Muir Library
FAQs
If your library book is overdue, you should return it to the library as soon as possible. Fines are not charged for overdue items, but if you have a book that's been overdue for two weeks or more, you won't be able to check out any more books until you return it.
If your library book is damaged, you should return it to the library as soon as possible and let the librarian know what happened. The book will be checked and repaired, if possible. You should not try to fix the book at home, because the library has special supplies for fixing books the right way. If the book is damaged beyond repair, you will be asked to pay for the book so it can be replaced.
If your library book is lost, you will be asked to pay for the book so it can be replaced.
If your library book was returned to the wrong library, you should report it to the library as soon as possible. Other libraries will return books, usually by mail, so sometimes they are slow. In the meantime, you will not be expected to pay for the book, because isn't considered lost.
The Circulation Desk is located in the Library. You can't miss it. The staff there will be able to help you check out books.
First through fifth grade can check out two books. Kindergarteners can check 1 book out, however the book stays in the classroom. Books are due two weeks from the checkout date.
When you check out a library book, you make an agreement to return library materials on-time. You also agree to take care of library materials so that they will be in good shape for the next user. The staff understands that things happen and are always willing to work with you in case materials are late or are in some way damaged. Remember that these materials are purchased with YOUR tax dollars. Treat them as if you bought them yourself!
You should return materials to the Circulation desk in the slot marked "Book Drop". Please check materials to make sure that you have not left anything important in the books that you checked out. You would be surprised at the things we have found inside of returned materials!
If a book is not on the shelf, check with the staff. They can tell you if it is checked out or missing. If the book is checked out, you will need to check back after it is due. If the library does not own the book, you may suggest the title for future purchase.
Volunteers are always welcome. If you have any time to give, we have jobs large and small, depending on the time you have available. Children love to have their parents and their friends' parents around the library to help them.
We hope everyone is a Friend of the Library. If you would like to donate to the Library, either money or computers, please call the Librarian. Donations of any size are always much appreciated.
Leave a message for the Librarian at the school office, or email the Librarian.
There are no late fees for overdue books. But fines are collected for lost or damaged books. Checks are made payable to the John Muir.
Donations in the form of new books are always welcome! If you wish to donate money, please contact the John Muir PTA.
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated! Days and hours are flexible. We often have special 'one time only' projects. Please check with the Librarian.
