About John Muir Elementary School

Welcome to John Muir School! We are proud to provide a child-centered environment that cultivates character, fosters academic excellence, and embraces diversity. Our families, community, and staff join as partners to develop creative, exemplary learners with the skills and enthusiasm to contribute to a constantly changing global society.

Muir families speak many languages including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Hebrew, Korean, and French. We are a small school of about 450 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Children are taught in general education, English learner, and special day classes.

We are all proud to be Muir Wildcats! John Muir School was named after the naturalist, writer, and founder of the Sierra Club. Born in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland, Muir was a champion of the wilderness. His efforts helped save Yosemite, Sequoia National Park and many other areas in the Sierra Nevada. He said, "When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."

Come and explore with Us!
