It is important to be prepared for any emergency that can occur involving our school.
Though most people consider earthquakes the most likely emergency this can also include
fires and lock down situations. The school staff is prepared to make prompt and
responsible decisions in any situation that could threaten the safety of the students.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- DISCUSS potential emergencies with your child.
- DEVELOP an evacuation plan with you children and be sure that they understand the details.
- DEMONSTRATE: Set an example - by doing emergency preparation for your home.
- SELECT at least 2 local people to take care of your child in case you cannot. Arrange pick-up permission for your child by promptly filling out the Enrollment/Health Card given to you in the first day packet.
- CHOOSE an out-of-town contact that the household can reach to check on each other. You contact should have everyone's numbers and live far enough away that they would be unlikely to be affected by the same event.
- PLAN so that your child knows what everyone will do in an emergency.
- CALM FEARS by letting children know that you, the school, and other agencies will be working to take care of them.
- PARTICIPATE in emergency preparation efforts at your school.
IN AN EMERGENCY:
Please DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL.
The phone lines must be kept open for emergency purposes.
The school is well equipped to handle these situations.
The first responsibility of the school staff in an emergency is the safety and health of your child.
Regnart has made arrangements for rescue, first aid, sanitation and other support.
The staff will care for your child until you or your authorized representative arrives.
Emergency tags will be used as a means of identification for each child.
If evacuation becomes necessary, the instructions on the Enrollment/Health Card will be followed.
It is imperative that you always keep all contact information up to date on this card.
The decision to close schools before the regularly scheduled closing time might have to be made.
This need could arise from a relatively minor emergency, such as a prolonged interruption in power,
or from a major event, such as a fire, disastrous earthquake or severe storm.
Evacuation would take place as soon as it appeared safe to do so.
PROCEDURE:
IF YOU ARE AT HOME
- Take care of First Aid for household members.
- Check home safety issues.
- Come to school and pick-up your child as soon as it is safe to do so.
IF YOU ARE AT WORK
- Complete the emergency procedures established at your workplace.
- Return home as soon as it is permitted, safe and practical to do so.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT SCHOOL
- Follow signs to Student Release.
- Go to table identified with first letter of your last name. Instructions will be given.
Since only parents/authorized adults are allowed to pick up a student during an emergency,
it is imperative that each student's Enrollment/Health card is updated with recent information.
During a moderate-to-major emergency, use a battery-operated radio to get news and official directions.
Evacuation plans should not include use of private cars as traffic conditions may prohibit their use.
If a major emergency occurs when schools are in session, information will be broadcast to parents over
local radio station KXRX, 1500 KHZ; KLOK, 1170 KHZ; KEEN, 1370 KHZ and local television station KNTCV, Channel 11.
