(Revised 2005 by Cupertino Union School District) Individual Grade Curriculum Links
Cupertino Union School District serves a richly diverse student population. Our district is committed to developing an inclusive, caring, educational community in which each individual has an equal opportunity to achieve his or her potential. This document is designed to give you an overview of the concepts and skills presentedat a particular grade level in our schools. All of our schools share a core curriculum, common language arts and math standards, and high academic goals for which they are accountable. Each school works through its School Site Council to develop and implement a school plan unique to its priorities and needs, and may, therefore, use different strategies to present the instructional program. Our district curriculum and standards are based on the state curriculum frameworks and standards, as well as the goals and objectives of our district Strategic Plan 2008-2011. Technology and critical thinking skills are integrated throughout all subject areas. An effective partnership between school and home promotes a lifelong love of learning, and positively affects academic achievement and personal success. We look forward to a rewarding and productive partnership with you during your child's years in our school district. Phil Quon BOARD of EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Cupertino Union School District is to provide a child-centered environment that cultivates character, fosters academic excellence, and embraces diversity. District families, community, and staff join as partners to develop creative, exemplary learners with the skills and enthusiasm to contribute to a constantly changing global society. ASSESSMENT LEARNING Teachers assess student progress on a regular basis using a wide variety of tests and strategies which include observation, student tasks and projects, teacher-made tests, curriculum units tests and required district and state exams. Results of teacher assessments are reported on trimester/quarter report cards. Information gathered from assessments help guide instruction and improve teaching practices. CUSD assessments correlate to state exams and are aligned to adopted state standards. The state standards tell us what students should know and be able to do in each curricular area and grade level. Information from these various assessments helps teachers provide learning experiences that will help all students make significant progress towards the standards. |
